Born in the UK of French parents, Eber Serieys grew up in England and France before making Nova Scotia his home in 1970.
He started his martial arts studies in the mid-70’s with the Atlantic Karate Club under the guidance of Sensei Shane Higashi of the Canadian Chito-Ryu Karate-Do Association where, after 7 years, he was awarded Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt).
Father of four sons, Eber took time to focus on his young family before commencing studies in Yang-style Tai Chi.
In 1990, he first started studying under Eve Rosenthal, Halifax, a teacher who studied in the lineage of Cheng Man-ch’ing. In 2006, Eber also became a student of Dr. Robin Wu, TCM (drwutcm.com), Halifax, who learned the Tai Chi 37 Form directly from Cheng Man-ch’ing.
Eber also regularly participates in Qigong and Tai Chi retreats to further his own learning—the most recent was a Qigong retreat in upstate NY in 2024 with the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi.
Eber lives in Wolfville, Nova Scotia with his wife Susan. Bilingual in English and French, Eber’s passions include cooking, swimming, and travel. Now semi-retired, Eber is working to build a local Tai Chi and Qigong community through teaching in Wolfville.
